South West Lakes Trust have today issued the following notice due to low water levels:
Dear season ticket holder
I am writing to update you on the fishing conditions at Kennick Reservoir, Fernworthy Reservoir, Stithians and Siblyback Lakes.
As many of you will have seen for yourselves, water levels at all of these reservoirs have continued to fall and are now at a point where we have serious concerns about the safety of anglers accessing and using the fisheries. After careful consideration and ongoing monitoring of conditions, we have taken the difficult decision to close these fisheries to all angling activity with immediate effect.
This closure applies to:
- all day tickets for all four waters
- all Kennick season ticket holders
- all Fernworthy season ticket holders
- all Stithians season ticket holders
- all Siblyback season ticket holders
- all Waters permit holders wishing to fish any of these waters
- all Castabout permit holders wishing to fish Fernworthy reservoir.
We know this news will be hugely disappointing. Many of you have supported these fisheries for years and value the time spent at the water, so this is not a decision we have taken lightly. However, the safety of our anglers, staff and visitors must come first, and at present we do not believe it is possible to provide safe access to the fisheries.
Please be assured that we will continue to monitor conditions closely. The moment water levels recover sufficiently and we can safely reopen the fisheries, we will do so and will let you know straight away.
We are grateful for your patience, understanding and continued support during what has been an exceptionally challenging year. These conditions are beyond anyone’s control, but we remain committed to protecting the long-term future of the fisheries and reopening them as soon as it is safe and practical to do so.
Please note that the fisheries will remain closed until further notice. We are unable to provide a reopening date at this stage but will keep all permit holders updated as conditions change.
Thank you for your understanding and we hope to welcome you back to the water as soon as conditions allow.
Burrator Reservoir remains open currently and we would like to confirm that you are welcome to continue to utilise your season ticket at this fishery. Roadford, Colliford and Wistlandpound remain open until the end of the season on Thursday 15 October. They will then close until March 2027.
With kind regards,
Neil Reeves
