Trout Fishing on Siblyback is managed by South West Lakes trust who regularly stock the water with Rainbow Trout and this year (2024) have made an experimental stocking of several hundred Brown Trout.

Fishing on the lake is strictly fly fishing only and to fish an angler must have bought a day permit before commencing fishing or have a season ticket. Permits are no longer available at the lake. The permits can be bought online on the South West Lakes Trust Trout Fishing Website here

Membership of Siblyback Flyfishers Association does not give members the right to fish without already having bought a permit.

The lake is actually a reservoir of about 140 acres and a perimeter of about two and a half miles. Most anglers fish from the bank but there is also a boat available which can be booked via South West Lakes Trust. The margins are generally wader friendly with a firm sandy gently sloping bottom. However there are a couple of areas dangerous for wading. Of particular note is the area just beyond the bird hide where a stream enters the lake. The depth shelves dramatically to the stream bed which is several feet deep and more than one angler has gone in over his head here. Also the area on the North bank where the trees start has many areas of soft deep silt. On the map it is shown as “Nature Reserve Fish with Care”.
