Siblyback Taster Day organised by SWLT

South West Lakes Trust organised a Taster Day at Siblyback on Sunday, where people could book up for a free 90 minutes of tuition in fly fishing. All skill levels were catered for and among the 30+ attendees were people who had never picked up a fly rod in their lives, and experienced anglers wanting to brush up on specific skills, and everything in between

It was really pleasing to see so many youngsters in attendance, the future of our sport, and the enthusiasm they brought to the day.

In addition to outside activities, people were able to learn skills to tie flies. This proved very popular, especially with people who had tried fishing for the first time, seen the flies in action and were then keen to have a go at tying something for themselves.

Food and drink was also provided indoors by Leon, head of fisheries at South West Lakes trust, who also had a busy time allocating students to instructors in the three bookable sessions throughout the day.

The coaches were all members of Siblyback Fly Fishers Association, as well as the fly tyers. This demonstrates the depth of experience within the club, and all had a very enjoyable and rewarding day. As can be seen in the photographs, fish were caught. Some youngsters caught their first ever trout and this hopefully will lead on to a lifetime of enjoyment in the sport of fly fishing.

The club benefitted too with new members joining, including 3 juniors.

On behalf of the club, we would like to thank Leon Fisher and South West Lakes Trust for organising the day, and look forward to next year’s event.
