SUMMARY:Wes Ower Memorial Open Competition
DESCRIPTION:Wes will be sadly missed\, a hugely popular man in the fly fishing world and one of the best fly tyers. He was heavily involved in the Fly Dressers Guild and had his own fly dressing materials company in Hooks & Hackles. He was also our Chairman. \nIt is only fitting that we hold a Charity Open in his name with the proceeds going to his favoured charity\, the Air Ambulane. All entry fees will be donated to the Cornwall Air Ambulance\, and South West Lakes Trust are very generously donating a £200 voucher for the winner. Entry fee is £10 (you will also need a valid 5 fish permit for the day\, or a season ticket). The entry fee is payable on the day in cash \nWes Ower Memorial Charity Competition \nSiblyback Lake\, Sunday 9th March 2025 \nAll entry fees will be donated to the Cornwall Air Ambulance  \nEntry fee is £10 \nAnglers must also be in possession of a SWLT 5 fish day permit or a relevant season ticket. Full kit provided for those new to tying flies \nDeer hair is the subject this month – I plan to tie up three flies: –\nAdditional tools include hair stacker\nEmpty clean margarine tub or similar to catch the bits / waste\n\n1 Deer hair sedge-    Hook = size 10.  dry fly – I like longer hooks (if you have emerger hook perfect)\n                                  Thread = Light brown\n                                  Abdomen = Light brown dubbing (seals fur or hairs ear)\n                                  Wing = Light colour natural deer hair.\n\n2 Deer hair hopper – This fly tied as a hopper but Rainbows will take as a Hawthorn fly……\n                                   Hook = size 10 or 8 dry fly – again longer or Emerger I prefer.\n                                  Thread = Tail / tag red\n                                  Thread = black\n                                  Body = peacock Herl or black dubbing\n                                  Rib = size 14 pearly Mylar or similar\n                                  Legs = Pheasant tail died black (Natural will do)\n                                  Wing – dark coloured deer hair\n\n3 Carp biscuit fly –   Hook = size 8 grub / blob hook\n                                Thread = brown Black will do\n                                Body – deer hair – any colour\n
